We, at the EAO, have been committed to sustainability for many years, implementing several eco-friendly initiatives at our annual congress:

  • Sustainable Travel: We encourage delegates and faculty to adopt the most sustainable methods when travelling to Lisbon, prioritizing train whenever feasible. 
  • Public Transport: During the congress, public transport is recommended to all delegates and exhibitors.
  • Pocket and Digital Programme: We have significantly reduced our printed programme, providing a concise pocket version alongside a comprehensive mobile app.
  • Local Cuisine: The majority of food served during coffee breaks and lunches is sourced locally.
  • Vegetarian and Vegan Options: We provide a variety of vegetarian and vegan options.
  • Water Stations: Numerous water stations are available in our exhibition, eliminating the need for plastic bottles.
  • Recyclable Materials: We use recyclable materials wherever possible.
  • Waste Separation: We ensure waste is separated for effective recycling.

Key points of Lisbon Congress Center Social and Environmental Responsibility Policy:

  • Certification for the Quality Management System : ISO 9001
  • Lisbon Congress Center recycles paper, cardboard, plastic, glass, electrical wiring / metal, batteries, lamps and ink cartridges. The obsolete equipment is delivered for convenient disposal. All the spare material from events is recycled or reused.
  • Regarding the use of electricity and water Lisbon Congress Center implemented a rationalization program, which involved the replacement of the old hydro-sanitary equipment for new equipment, more efficient, and the purchase of equipment for flow control.
  • Lisbon Congress Center took part in EPAL's campaign to raise awareness of tap water sustainability, which invited public and private entities to accept the challenge of exclusively consuming water from the public water supply network on their premises, by providing EPAL water jugs for their common areas
  • Lisbon Congress Center is in a privilege area in the city of Lisbon offering a vast variety of public transport. We actively promote the usage of trains, metro and bus among organizers and participants and promote walking distance hotels for international visitors.
  • Regarding partners and external services, we choose to work directly with local suppliers and agencies, to incentive the local community and economy, contributing also to the decreasing transport and energy impacts.
  • The waste management services are performed by subcontract, with a specialized company that ensures the optimization and rationalization of Industrial waste management operations, as well as the guarantee of support professional technical superiors in environmental management.
